This is the highest award a citizen can get. Its purpose is still secret today. When Mr. Hale passes the story will be told.

Maple Dojo...Hale and the late John Sheppard
Hale is a prolific reader. His bachelor's degree was in History and he loves to study other cultures and ways of life. This book came into my possession when in my youth I told him I struggled with things to say in the circle. My wisdom and life experience was not enough to help guide my students in the way he had lead us. He gave me this book which I remembered him reading from on occasion in the circle at the end of each class. He told me that the greatest wisdom came from the Bible but each culture had men of vision. He said that all men struggle with the meaning of life and how to best fulfil the destiny before them. I used this book for many years and will still pick it up some times just to look at the passages that he had made notes in. I hold this and other writings that the Master has sent me with great care and reflect on his  words often.

Many of his students will recognize his hand writing. Hale was in constant thought of his boys and girls. He would send notes to us to remind us that he only believed and expected the very best from us. Many times in my life, and from conversation with others, his notes came just at the right time in our lives. The power of his hand written inspiration was something that the electronic world can not duplicate

The Circle. No other school had a closing like this. Hale used the circle to teach and bond his students. He told Bible stories, and discussed the attributes of right behaviour to his students. We learned to fight in class. Then Hale would teach us how to fight the real battles in life using the time in the circle to guide a bunch kids in to maturity and responsibility
